Computers:
1) Use one laptop to stream the webcast, use another to monitor the playback – this is essential if you want the actual user experience.
2) Do not run encoding / webcasting laptops on battery power.
3) While webcasting, run only the webcasting & associated software. Close everything else. Do not visit websites via a browser on your encoding / webcasting system when active.
4) Do not upload, download, update or otherwise modify your system while webcasting live. The rule of thumb is that if it’s working – don’t touch.

Telestream Wirecast – set outputs to Virtual Camera / Virtual Microphone.
When using any mixing / switching software in combination with board-acquired audio ALWAYS check for audio / video sync in webcast live stream and in file playback prior to event. Some software will allow you to adjust this if there is a sync issue.
You may want to produce a series of “Stand By” or “Back In A Minute” slates or videos and practice inserting these into your webcast. This is essential for long webcasts (1 hr +) or to give you the opportunity to troubleshoot issues.
Big Picture:
1) Stuff will go wrong. It’s the nature of the beast.
2) Gaffers tape & duct tape are not the same thing.
3) No matter how many adapters you bring, you will not have the one you need.
4) Don’t panic.
